Think Pink This Saturday At February 16 Basketball Double-Header

Feb 12, 2008

Fairfield University will be Thinking Pink at its basketball double-header at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday, February 16.  The Stags are taking part in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) ‘Think Pink' initiative to raise awareness of breast cancer.

The Stags women's basketball team will be hosting Siena College at noon, while the men will host Rider University at 2 p.m.  Both games will be televised live on Cablevision in conjunction with the Fairfield University Media Center.

Fairfield will be raising money for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund at the double-header on Saturday.  Any fan that makes a financial contribution to the fund will receive a complimentary ticket to the Stags Monday, Feb. 18 double-header, which is Senior Day for the two squads.

Additionally, fans will be able to participate in raffles and auctions for a variety of prizes.  Raffle prizes, which will be announced throughout the day, include autographed pink shooting shirts from the two teams, as well as a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) backpack and ESPN attire.

Auction items will include Fairfield summer sports camp admissions, autographed basketballs, and an ESPN gift pack.  Camps that have donated admissions are: Joe Frager Girls Basketball Camp, Ed Cooley Basketball Camp, Stags Baseball Camp, Academy of Soccer and Carl Rees' Planet Soccer, as well as an hour golf lesson from Stags head coach Len Roberto.

All fans that attend the games wearing pink will receive a free gift from the Stags athletic department as thanks for helping raise awareness of breast cancer.

The women's basketball team is currently 17-7 on the year and 7-6 in the MAAC in fifth place.  The men's squad is 10-14 on the year and in sixth-place in the MAAC, at 8-6.
