Women's Basketball Thinks Pink As It Hosts Siena Saturday At Noon

Feb 15, 2008

The Fairfield University women’s basketball (game notes)team meets Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Siena College for the first time this season on ‘Think Pink’ Day.  The Stags enter the game with a 17-7 overall record and a 7-6 mark in league play, in fifth place.  The Saints are 9-14 overall and 5-8 in conference action, in a three-way tie for sixth place.

Fairfield and Siena are meeting for the 45th time in the program’s history, in what is arguably one of the top rivalries in the MAAC.  Despite losing two of three meetings last season, the Stags hold a 23-22 advantage in the series.  Siena won the last meeting, 55-54, on a desperation shot at the end of the MAAC Tournament quarterfinal last spring at the Arena at Harbor Yard.  Just two weeks prior to that game, Sabra Wrice scored a building record 36 points to help the Stags to a win. Fairfield is 11-7 all-time at home against Siena, which includes a 3-4 mark at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Today, Fairfield is participating in the WBCA’s ‘Think Pink’ initiative.  Over 600 schools nationwide have participated this week in the effort to bring awareness of breast cancer.  The Stags are also raising money to benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.  Fans can participate in raffles and auctions for a variety of items at the tables located in the main entryway.  In addition, those fans who make a financial donation will receive a complimentary ticket to the Stags double-header on Monday.

Fairfield plays its final home game of the season on Monday, hosting Saint Peter’s, with a 5:04 tip-off for MAAC-TV.  A ceremony honoring the Stags three seniors, Stephanie Cziria, Meka Werts and Sabra Wrice, will begin at 4:49.
