Lowenthal Named MAAC Player Of The Week
Feb 25, 2008
Fairfield University women’s basketball player Baendu
Lowenthal (Riverside, N.J.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference (MAAC) co-offensive player of the week. The honor
is the second honor of the year for Lowenthal and the third for the
Stags.
Lowenthal, a graduate of Riverside High School, averaged a
double-double on the week, with 23.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in
two games. She shot 16-26, 61.5 percent from the floor for
the week, while dishing out five assists and recording four
steals.
In the home win over Saint Peter’s on Monday, the junior shot
8-12 from the floor for a team-high 26 points. She shot 10-12
from the free throw line in the game, with the 10 made free throws
a career-high. On Sunday at Siena, Lowenthal was 8-14 from
the field, again leading the team with 21 points. Her 11
rebounds in that game was also a game-high, including six offensive
boards.
Lowenthal is shooting 51.7 percent from the field for the season, a
number that ranks her 62nd in the nation, and third in the
MAAC. She is also among the top-five in the MAAC in scoring,
14.7 points per game, and rebounding, at 8.0 a contest.
With her 47 points in the last two games, Lowenthal has put herself
in position to reach 1,000 points for her career before the end of
the season. With at least three games remaining this year,
she has tallied 977 points, and needs to average 7.7 a game to
become the 22nd player in program history to eclipse the millennium
mark.
Lowenthal has helped the Stags to their first winning season in
seven years, entering the final week of the regular season at 19-8
overall. The Stags are 9-7 in league play, in a tie for
fourth place as they head to Manhattan College on Wednesday night
to meet the Jaspers, who are also 9-7 in league play.
Fairfield will finish the regular season at Loyola College on March
1.
