Women's Basketball Ends Regular Season Saturday At Loyola
Feb 29, 2008
The Fairfield University women's basketball team (game notes) will play the final game of the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Loyola College. The Stags enter the game with a 20-8 overall record and at 10-7 in league play. The Greyhounds are 12-15 on the year and 7-10 in conference action.
Fairfield has won 20 games for the first time since the 2000-01 season. That year the Stags posted a school-record 25 victories and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Fans can listen to the contest on WVOF 88.5 FM as John Cummings and Maria Conlon call all the action.
Baendu Lowenthal enters the game with 991 career points, on the verge of becoming the 22nd player in program history to score 1,000 points.
The Stags are tied for third place with Saint Peter's entering the weekend's contests. A win by Fairfield, coupled by a loss by the Peahens, will give the Stags the number three-seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament. If Fairfield and Saint Peter's both win, the Stags will be the four-seed. If both those teams lose, and Manhattan wins, the Stags again earn the number three-seed. A Fairfield and Saint Peter's win, coupled with an Iona loss, gives the Stags the number four-seed.
Fairfield will play on Friday, March 7 at the MAAC Tournament at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. If they are the number three-seed the Stags will play at 11:30 a.m., and will play at 4:30 p.m. if they are the fourth-seed.
