Mar 7, 2008

The Fairfield University women's basketball team begins its run at a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Tournament run Friday morning at 11:30, taking on Siena College at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y.  The Stags enter the game at 21-8 overall and as the number three-seed, after tying Iona College for second place with an 11-7 league record.  The Saints are 11-17 on the year and the number six-seed and 7-11 in MAAC play.

Fans can listen live to the game as John Cummings and Maria Conlon call all the action on WVOF, 88.5 FM.  The contest will also air live on the MSG Network, and fans can access the game on ESPN FullCourt and ESPN360.com.

The game marks the fourth consecutive season the Stags and Saints meet in the opening game of the tournament.  Each of the three prior games were one point decisions, with the Saints winning on a late three-pointer at the Arena at Harbor Yard in the 2007 quarterfinals.  The Stags won the previous two meetings, both in overtime, including in 2006 when they rallied froma 26-12 halftime deficit to earn the win.

The winner advances to the semifinals to face either #2 Iona or #7 Loyola at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
