Stags Head To New Jersey Looking For Sweep Of Rider

The Fairfield University women's basketball team (game notes) plays one game on the road, traveling to Rider University for a Friday night contest.  The Stags, 13-5 overall and 3-4 in the MAAC, have won three straight games, including a 59-43 win over the Broncs a week ago at Alumni Hall.  The Broncs are 5-13 overall and 0-7 in the MAAC, and have lost six straight games.

Fairfield and Rider are meeting for the 25th time since the first meeting, Dec. 4, 1987, a 73-62 victory.  The Stags hold a 22-2 record in the all-time series, including an 10-2 record outside of Connecticut  Fairfield won the team’s first meeting of the year, a week ago at Alumni Hall, and have now won six straight meetings. Rider won its first meeting in Feb. 5, 2000, 89-80, before Fairfield rattled off its longest win streak of the series, capturing the next 11 contests.  The Broncs won at home again on Jan. 10, 2005 and the Stags have won each meeting since.

Stephanie Geehan equaled a career-high 16 rebounds in the win over Loyola, the third-best single-game effort in program history.  She scored eight points in each of the last two games and has blocked eight shots in those contests.

The Stags began the week as the 11th best team in the nation in scoring defense, allowing opponents to score 53.9 points per game.  Fairfield allowed an average of 42 points per game in the home wins over the weekend, including holding Loyola to a school-record 41 points on Sunday.

The Stags return home on Sunday, Jan. 27 to host Iona at 3:30 p.m. at the Arena at Harbor Yard.
