Jun 22, 2009
Fairfield University women's basketball senior-to-be Tara Flaherty (Hasting-on-Hudson, N.Y.) spent 10-days of her summer break playing in Europe. She was part of a 10-person USA Athletes International Organization that toured England, Paris, and Holland, from June 1-10, posting a 4-2 record against local club, college and professional teams.
"This was a great experience," said Flaherty. "I am glad that I had the opportunity to travel, play ball and get a taste of playing at the professional level."
The tour began in London, with one game, in which Flaherty scored 15 and hauled in seven rebounds. After a train ride to Paris, the squad climbed the Eiffel Tower and enjoyed other sites of the French capital. After a game against a French Club Team, Flaherty and company headed to Holland, stopping in Ostend and finishing in Amsterdam.
In Amsterdam the Americans played two games, one versus a professional squad, falling by 10 points. Flaherty had her best game of the trip, scoring 25 points and again pulling down seven rebounds.
