CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Fairfield University rowing team placed four entries into the Knecht Cup on April 14, highlighted by the first-place finish by the junior varsity 4+. All competition took place on Saturday, since poor weather conditions were predicted for Sunday.

The junior varsity 4+ included Rebecca Bowes, Mallory Reimers, Samantha Rosen, Elizabeth Ulles, and coxswain Daria Anuszkiewicz. The shell crossed the finish line with a time of 8:15.5, nearly six seconds better than runner up Boston College. Villanova, Sacred Heart, Dowling, and Delaware also entered the race.

The novice 8 also raced on Saturday, placing sixth in its heat with a time of 8:10.4. The team included Karisten Strong, Lauren Lipyanka, Diana Wescott, Alysse Merullo, Courtney McCord, Emily Petrow, Sara Lafuci, and coxswain Kerilyn Peck. Fordham won the heat with a time of 7:31.3.

The varsity 4+ secured third place in its heat with a time of 8:41.9, with Duquesne (8:19.8) and Kansas (8:27.4) placing in front of the Stags. The shell was comprised by Mary Crowley, Jessica Braveman, Sara LaFauci, Lindsay Ryan, and coxswain Daria Anuszkiewicz.

The varsity 8 represented the Stags final entry of the day, and placed sixth in its heat with a time of 7:42.9. The team consisted of Mary Crowley, Jessica Braveman, Lindsay Ryan, Rebecca Bowes, Elizabeth Ulles, Samantha Rosen, Christina DiCiocci, Sara LaFauci, and coxswain Daria Anuszkiewicz. Boston College won the heat with a time of 6:54.6, and went on to take third in the grand final later in the day.

The Stags return to action on April 22 when they travel to Mercer Lake in Princeton, N.J. for the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships.
