WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team placed fourth at the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championships, highlighted by a first-place finish by the junior varsity 4+. The Stags combined for 106 total points, compiled by their finishes in five separate events.
The JV 4 captured the team's only gold medal by crossing the finish line with a time of 8:18.3. The shell included Liz Ulles, Sam Rosen, Becca Bowes, and Mallory Reimers. The Stags also sent another entry into the race, which placed third overall. The team was comprised by Sara LaFouci, Mary Crowley, Jess Braveman, and Lindsey Ryan.
The novice 4 just missed gold by taking second place in its event, courtesy of a strong effort from Emily Petrow, Alysse Merullo, Diana Wescott, and Lauren Lipyanka. The Stags finished the race in 8:32.26, just a few seconds off leader Loyola (8:28.69).
The novice 8 started the day off for Fairfield with a second-place finish with a time of 8:12.18, trailing only Loyola College (7:55.2). The Stags entry included Emily Petrow, Mary McGrath, Diana Wescott, Lauren Lipyanka, Karisten Strong, Caitlen Gallagher, Courtney McCord, and Alyesse Merullo.
The varsity 8 secured third place with a time of 7:36.65, as Marist won the event with a time of 7:15.26. The shell consisted of Sara LaFouci, Mary Crowley, Jess Braveman, Lindsey Ryan, Becca Bowes, Sam Rosen, Liz Ulles, and Christina DiCioccio.
Fairfield placed two entries in the varsity 4, which resulted in a fourth and fifth place finish. The fourth-place shell included Sara LaFouci, Mary Crowley, Liz Ulles, and Sam Rosen, which recorded a time of 8:24.98. The "B" boat was just one-plus seconds later in the standing after a strong showing from Becca Bowes, Lindsey Ryan, Jess Braveman, and Mallory Reimers.
The Stags finish the regular season on May 11 and 12 in Philadelphia, competing in the prestigious Dad Vails.
