NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The women's crew team finished third in the 2003 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rowing championships, highlighted by a first-place finish by the novice 4 shell. The Stags collected 67.75 points, trailing Marist College (109 points) and Loyola (77 points).

The Stags' novice 4 won the race by nearly 12 seconds, crossing the line in 8:14.3. Marist College (8:26.7), Loyola (8:35.3) and Iona (8:59.0) rounded out the four-boat race. The junior varsity 4 also picked up a gold medal with a time of 8:37.6, beating Marist by nearly 10 seconds.

In other action, Fairfield's pair took fifth place (9:50.3), while the novice 8 grabbed third (7:47.7). The varsity 4 (7:55.0) was edged by less than a second, as Marist won the race in 7:54.2. In varsity 8 action, the Stags placed third with a time of 8:07.1. Marist won the race with a time of 7:30.5, followed by Loyola (7:45.4).

The Stags return to action on May 9-10 when they travel to Philadelphia for the Dad Vails.
