NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Both Fairfield University novice boats performed well at the New York Intercollegiate Rowing Association Spring Championship Regatta on April 29. The novice 8 won its event, while the novice 4 secured a second-place finish in its race.

The novice 4 started things off by finishing first in its heat with a tome of 8:08.5, 12 seconds better than runner-up Sacred Heart University. The time placed Fairfield in the final race, which resulted in a runner-up spot to Sacred Heart. The Stags crossed the finish line with a time of 8:35.5, while the Pioneers won the event with a time of 8:28.9.

Coxswain Amanda Bennette, Mallory Reimers, Amanda Kuelker, Sara LaFauci, and Bella Bovies comprised Fairfield's novice 4 entry.

The novice 8 also won its heat by edging out Sacred Heart. The Stags finished the race in 7:36.2, more than 30 seconds better than the Pioneers (8:02.1). The win set up a spot in the final, which Fairfield won by 15 seconds. The Stags crossed the line in 7:47.0, while heat #2 winner Fordham University was the second-place shell (8:02.5).

The winning team included coxswain Daria Anuszkiewicz, Linday McGrail, Mary Crowley, Liz Ulles, Lindsay Ryan, Liz Reilly, Jessica Braveman, Christina DiCioccio, and Sam Rosen.

The Stags return to action when they participate in the Dad Vails in Philadelphia on May 12-13.
