HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's crew team opened the 2003 Fall campaign by participating at the Riverfront Recapture Regatta. The Stags placed three entries into the event, namely the varsity 8, second varsity 8 and the varsity 4 squads.
The varsity 4 enjoyed the best finish on the day, taking seventh with a time of 21:47. The team included coxswain Sandy Wrinn, Katie Gill, Jen White, Beth Hemingway and stroke Amy Ferguson. Williams College won the event with a time of 21:47.
The varsity 8 secured eighth place in its outing, crossing the finish line in 17:59. Coxswain Sandy Wrinn, Jen White, Katie Gill, Maureen Sullivan, Christine Opiela, Mary Claire Finnen, Beth Hemingway, Amy Ferguson and bow Andrea Bazos comprised the squad. Coast Guard finished first in the race, registering a time of 16:46.
The second varsity 8 also took eighth place in its race, as its time of 20:36 was behind Smith College's winning timeof 18:10. The Stags' entry consisted of coxswain Erin Daly, stroke Shanna Athas, Kristi Wilson, Kate Chesny, Katy Healy, Maura O'Connor, Ellen Dunleavy, Robyn Raber and bow Mariel Kauffman.
The Red and White return to action on October 12 when they travel to Fairfax Station, Virginia for the Occaquan Chase.
