OAKDALE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University women's crew team closed out the fall portion of its schedule at the Dowling Alumni Cup Regatta, as the men's club squad (85 points) and women's varsity team combined to win the championship with 194 total points. Dowling College (142 points) and Iona College (122 points) rounded out the top three teams.
The varsity boats excelled at the regatta, as the varsity 8+, the varsity 4+ and the lightweight 4+ each crossed the finish line in their respective events. The varsity 8 shell included coxswain Sandy Wrinn, Amy Ferguson, Katie Gill, Kate Chesny, Christine Opiela, Mary Finnen, Andrea Bazos, Maura O'Connor and Mariel Kauffman. The varsity 4 team consisted of coxswain Sandy Wrinn, Ellen Dunleavy, Maureen Sullivan, Beth Hemingway and Jen White. The lightweight 4+ boat was comprised of coxswain Sandy Wrinn, Erica Mullaney, Maura O'Connor, Jessica Raymond and Amy Ferguson.
Not to be outdone, the women's junior varsity 4+ also came home with the gold, edging out host Dowling in the race. The team included coxswain Erin Daly, Kristi Wilson, Robyn Raber, Christine Opiela and Kate Chesny.
The novice rowers also performed admirably during the event, highlighted by the novice 8+ taking third place behind Stony Brook University and Iona College. Coxswain Thais Pagan, Jess Raymond, Erica Mullaney, Emily Green, Linsday Dwan, Brittany Child, Amanda Piel, Kristen McCarney and Chrissy Young comprised the entry.
The second novice 4+ also secured a third-place finish behind the efforts of Jess Raymond, Claire Meehan, Brittany Teahan, Kylin Wentz and Gabriella Dogali.
