CAMDEN, N.J. -- The women's rowing team opened the spring portion of its schedule against some of the region's top teams at the Jesuit Invitational. Although it is early on the schedule, the Stags held their own against their formidible foes.

The novice 4+ picked up a win in the season opener with a solid time of 9:01.4, crossing the finish line before Saint Joseph's (9:11.8), Georgetown (9:18.8) and Loyola (9:38.3). The winning team included coxswain Jessica Brown, Marielle Conlon, Jenny Kazee, Rebecca Lockhart, and Kelly Reynolds.

The novice 8 placed fifth in its race with a time of 8:27.9. Georgetown (7:49.1) coasted to the victory in the event, beating second-place Boston College (8:05.1) by 16 seconds. The Fairfield novice 8 was comprised of coxswain Jessica Brown, Marielle Conlon, Jenny Kazee, Rebecca Lockhart, Kelly Reynolds, Nancy Sidnam, Dani Hanna, Chase Walsh, and Ceil Oliverio.

The varsity teams also competed against quality competition during the Invitational. The varsity 4+ captured fifth place in 9:01.2, with Boston College taking the first-place medal (8:14.6). The Stags shell included coxswain Erin Daly, Maureen Sullivan, Claire Meehan, Brittany Teahan, and Mariel Kauffman.

The varsity 8 finished off the day with a sixth place finish, as coxswain Erin Daly, Jessica Raymond, Mariel Kauffman, Maureen Sullivan, Katy Healy, Emily Green, Brittany Child, Kylin Wentz, and Christine Anglace posted a time of 7:45.0. The team edged out Loyola College in the race, the only MAAC team it faced that day. Boston College won the race in 6:50.3, followed by Georgetown A (7:00.1), and Holy Cross (7:06.2).
