WORCESTER, Mass. - The Fairfield University women's rowing team turned in another solid performance of the spring season last Saturday afternoon at Clark University on Lake Quinsigamond. With an increasing tailwind, and light chop in the second half of the race, the Stags used it to their advantage for another solid performance.

There was no novice 8 race on Saturday afternoon, and the Fairfield novice 8, which consisted of Jessica Brown as the coxswain, Marielle Conlon, Jenny Kazee, Rebecca Lockhart, Kelly Reynolds, Nancy Sidnam, Danni Hanna, Chase Walsh, and Cecelia Oliverio, raced in the second varsity 8 race, and rowed patiently to a 7:45.9 win, beating Sacred Heart (8:23.39), and Clark (8:32.43).

The varsity 8 turned in a strong performance, finishing second, with a 7:18.46, just getting edged by Clark, which won with a 7:18.43.

The Stags led by coxswain Erin Daly, and Jessica Raymond, Emily Green, Maureen Sullivan, Claire Meehan, Brittany Teahan, Katy Healy, Kylin Wentz, and Christine Anglace, led with 500 meters left, but Clark put a tremendous sprint at the end, just nipping the Stags at the finish line.

Brandeis (7:27.42) and Sacred Heart (7:28.65) rounded out the field.

In the women's varsity 4+ Fairfield's freshman 4, boat of Marielle Conlon, Jenny Kazee, Rebbeca Lockhart, Kelly Reynolds, and coxswain Kristy Mancini rowed a convincing race, finishing second to Assumption, and well ahead of Roger Williams and Franklin Pierce. No times were available.

Fairfield returns to action on Saturday, April 16, to take part in the Drexel Invitational at Pelham Bay, N.Y. It will be the final race before the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, in Princeton, N.J.
