PELHAM BAY, N.Y. - The Fairfield University women's rowing team raced against Drexel and Bucknell, in a final tune-up for the 2005 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.

Despite a fourth place finish with a 7:28.5, the Varsity 8, which consisted of Jessica Raymond, Christine Anglace, Maureen Sullivan, Claire Meehan, Marielle Conlon, Brittany Child, Brittany Teahan, Emily Green, and coxswain Erin Daly rowed a strong race. The Stags were one rower down in the boat, and Conlon who usually rowed with the novice, stepped up and did a superb job.

The race started out close in the first 500 meters, as the Stags maintained a 32 stroke rating for most of the race. But Drexel and Bucknell were able to move away from the Stag boat.

The Novice 8 again of Conlon, Jenny Kazez, Rebecca Lockhart, Kelly Reynolds, Nancy Sidnam, Dani Hanna, Chase Walsh, Cecelia Oliverio, and coxswain Jessica Brown, rowed a good race, rowing solidly for the entire race.

The Stags finished second to the Bucknell "A" boat with a 7:46.1. The Bison finished with a 7:20.5. Bucknell moved away from Fairfield after the opening 700 meters. Fairfield was also able to do the same to the rest of the field, to the finish line.

Fairfield returns to action on Sunday, April 24, for the MAAC Championships.
