Fairfield, Conn. -- The women's crew team defends its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship title this Sunday, when Canisius College, Iona College, Manhattan College, Loyola College and Marist College all converge on the Housatonic River for the 2001 MAAC Men's and Women's Rowing Championships. The event takes place at the Enterprise Yacht Sales Marina in Shelton.
Last year, the Stags captured the women's title with a one-point victory over runner-up Loyola College. The victory, which came in Fairfield's third season as a varsity program, was not secure until the final event of the day. This year, the event will be just as close as all six teams have a chance to win the conference title.
The first race is scheduled at 9:30 am with the men's novice lightweight 4+ opening the day-long event. The women's varsity 8 ends the day, scheduled for a 1:15 pm start. Sixteen races will take place in the four-hour schedule.
