ORCHARD BEACH, N.Y. -- In their final race of the Fall season, two Fairfield University novice 4 shells earned first-place and second-place medals at the Grimaldi Cup/Fall Metropolitan Championship Regatta. The novice 8 also enjoyed a successful afternoon by finishing second to Fordham University in its championship race.

Two Fairfield novice 4 shells crossed the line before other boats from Fordham University, Iona College, New York University, Sacred Heart University, and Manhattan College. The winning crew consisted of coxswain Sylvia Nicholis, Lindy McGrail, Mary Crowley, Kristen Hultberg, and Lindsay Ryan, and crossed the finish line with a time of 8:59. Not far behind was Fairfield's second novice 4 shell, comprised of coxswain Ericka Rojas, Mallory Reimers, Becca Bowes, Liz Ulles, and Christina DiCioccio.

Later that afternoon, the novice 8 rowed a strong race and secured second place, thanks to the efforts of coxswain Lindy McGrail, Mary Crowley, Kristen Hultberg, Liz Reilly, Cate Cavanaugh, Mallory Remiers, Lindsay Ryan, and Samantha Rosen.

The team will return to the water for competition in early March when the program makes it annual trip to Florida.
