ALBANY, N.Y. -- The 16th-ranked University at Albany scored its first two goals off a corner cross and a penalty corner which helped the team post a 3-0 win over the Stags field hockey team. Albany improved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in America East play, while Fairfield fell to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
Jess Lindsay scored the game's first goal just three minutes into the game when she redirected a corner pass from Michele Polizois at 2:31. Albany scored two goals in the second half, the first coming when Sam Daly converted a penalty corner with a shot from the top of the circle, pushing the lead to 2-0. Liz Thomas made two saves in the first half to keep the Stags in the game, trailing by two goals at intermission.
Albany used more pressure in the second half to keep the Stags pinned in their defensive side of the field. The home team took 13 shots, but only found the back of the cage. Chelsea Neff scored the game's final goal during a scramble in front of the Fairfield net. Thomas made five saves in the second half, and ended the game with seven stops.
