Field Hockey Earns National Academic Honors From NFHCA

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team collected a National Academic Team Award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), while seven student-athletes garnered a spot on the National Academic Squad.

The NFHCA honored 50 teams with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, listing Fairfield University among the association's academic elite. It marked the second straight season that the Stags were honored as a team for its academic achievement by the NFHCA.

In addition to the team award, seven Fairfield student-athletes were honored for their success in the classroom. Sarah Borton, Ashton DiDonato, Carly McCullough, Kristen McManus, Jill Piacquadio, Brittany Smith, and Elizabeth Thomas were selected tot he National Academic Squad, which includes student athletes who achieved a 3.3 or higher GPA during the Fall of 2007.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under head coach Jackie Kane, completed its first season of competition as a member of the America East conference in 2007.
