Stags Come Up Short On The Road In 2-0 Decision Against Rider

Oct 25, 2007

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- A pair of second-half goals just five minutes apart were the difference in Rider University's 2-0 win over Fairfield University in a non-conference game this afternoon. The Broncs broke a scoreless tie with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

Fairfield had an opportunity early in the game when Brittany Bates found open space in the center of the circle. The junior released a shot that went toward the corner, but Rider goalkeeper Jennifer LoCastro made a pad save to keep the game at 0-0. The Broncs also had their chances in the opening 35 minutes, but Liz Thomas made three saves to keep the home team off the scoreboard.

Rider finally broke through in the 55th minute when Mandy Hunter converted a pass from Allison Vogel and scored her first goal of the season. Just five minutes later, Tricia Crotty doubled the Broncs' advantage when she controlled a rebound and pushed a shot past Thomas at 60:49.

Thomas finished the game with five saves in her 70 minutes of work. LoPresti made one save in 66 minutes of action, before giving way to Lyndsie Johnson (1 save).

Fairfield finishes the regular season with an America East game on October 27 when it hosts the University of Maine. Game time is slated for 12 noon.
