Liz Thomas Honored With America East Co-Player Of The Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Goalkeeper Liz Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) became the first Fairfield University field hockey player to earn honors from America East when she was named the Co-Player of the Week following her performance in two games last week. The senior averaged 10.5 saves and posted an .808 save percentage against Columbia University and fourth-ranked University of Iowa.

The Stags opened the week with a 2-0 loss to Columbia University, but Thomas put together a strong effort in the contest. She faced 15 shots and made six saves against the Lions.

She followed with an outstanding performance against nationally-ranked Iowa, making a season-high 15 saves and keeping her team in the game. She allowed just one goal through the first 60 minutes of the game, which allowed the Stags to stay tied with the Hawkeyes at 1-1 for most of the contest. Iowa broke the tie with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes off penalty corners.

Thomas has started all seven games this year, and played all but 20 minutes of those contest. For the season, the goalkeeper owns a 2.46 goals against average and a .792 save percentage.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under head coach Jackie Kane, owns a 1-6 overall record and an 0-1 America East mark. The Stags return to action this week with a pair of games, beginning with a home date against Monmouth University at 1 pm. Fairfield finishes the week with an away game versus Yale University on September 23.
