Stags Surrender Three Goals In First Half For 3-0 Setback To Vermont
Aug 30, 2007
The University of Vermont tallied three first-half goals, the first two coming in just over a minute, to hand the Stags a 3-0 loss in the team's first-ever America East game. Fairfield joined the conference after spending the last few seasons as a member of the Northeast Conference. The Catamounts outshot the Stags by a 23-5 margin, which forced senior goaltender Elizabeth Thomas to make 10 saves.
The home team tallied all three of its goals in just over 10 minutes, beginning with Maegan Luce's goal off a centering pass from Kim Streigler at the 21:40 mark. Just one minute later, Danielle Collins converted a cross from Lauren Burke at 22:46 to double the Catamount advantage at 2-0. Collins finished the scoring when she tucked a rebound under Thomas with under three minutes remaining in the half, pushing the score to 3-0.
Thomas made eight of her 10 saves in the first half, as Vermont released 15 shots in the first half. Emily Janis put both of her shot attempts on goal, while Ashton DiDonato tallied the team's only other shot on the cage.
The Stags return to action on Saturday, September 1 when they play their home opener against Saint Joseph's at 2:30 pm.
