
Two-Game Swing Ends With 5-0 Setback To William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- For the second straight game, the Stags yielded four goals in the second half which led to a loss as William and Mary posted a 5-0 win over the Stags in the second game of a two-day road trip to Virginia. Three Fairfield goaltenders made seven saves in the game.
Fairfield battled the home team closely in the first half, and trailed by a 1-0 count at halftime. Rebecca Wagner gave William & Mary the lead with a goal in the 25th minute, which would be the only goal of the half. The Stags mounted several offensive pushes during the half, managing four shots.
The second half was a different story though, as William & Mary outshot Fairfield by a 13-1 margin. The Stags goaltenders made five saves in the half and finished with seven overall. Elizabeth Thomas started the game and made three saves in the first half. Freshman Jennifer Utz made two saves in the first 15 minutes of the second half, before yielding to Lauren Callahan for the final 20 minutes (two saves).
William & Mary scored four times in the final 35 minutes, starting with Laura Katelic's goal just 29 seconds into the period. The team tallied three more goals in an 11-minute span to put the game out of reach.
The Stags return to action on August 30, heading north for a game with the University of Vermont. Fairfield opens the home portion of its schedule on September 1 against Saint Joseph's.
