
Stags Stumble In 7-0 Loss Against Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- After the two teams went scoreless in the first 20 minutes of the game, Yale University took control by scoring three goals in six minutes en route to a 7-0 win over the field hockey team on Sunday afternoon. Senior goalkeeper Liz Thomas faced 34 shots in the game, and registered a career-high 18 saves in the loss.
Ashley McCauley wrapped a pair of goals around an Alyssa Jethani score during that six minute run which gave the home team a 3-0 lead. McCauley's first goal came at 21:23 when she converted a pass from Harriet Thayer. Jethani made the score 2-0 with her first goal of the season, and then set up the third goal with a pass to McCauley who finished the play at 27:20. Thomas finished the first half with 10 saves as she faced 21 shots in the opening 35 minutes.
The Stags registered all five of their shots in the second half, but Yale goalkeeper Charlotte Goins made four saves to preserve her shutout. Janis had two of the team's shots, while Chelsea Hicks, Kristen McManus, and Jill Piacquadio each has one shot in the game.
Fairfield returns to action on Friday, September 28 when it travels to St. Francis, Pa. for a 7 pm game. The team completes the weekend road trip by playing Lock Haven on September 30 at 11 am.
