
Field Hockey Places Eight Student Athletes On NFHCA National Academic Squad

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Eight Fairfield University student athletes were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad as the organization announced its annual awards.
The Fairfield recipients include seniors Emily Janis (East Hampton, N.Y.) and Kristen McManus (Havertown, Pa.), juniors Sarah Borton (Forty Fort, Pa.), Carly McCullough (Queensbury, N.Y.), and Jill Piacquadio (Brewster, N.Y.), as well as freshmen Megan Ambrose (St. Louis, Mo.), Taylor Callahan (Marblehead, Mass.), and Kaitlyn Devlin (Nesconset, N.Y.).
Janis placed second on the team with 15 points during the season, registering five goals and five assists in 18 starts. McManus was a defensive standout for the Stags, earning a start in all 18 games.
McCullough tallied a career=high seven points with three goals and one assist in 2008, while Piacquadio registered one assist in her 18 appearances. Borton split time both as a starter and as a reserve, gaining the starting nod in seven of her 13 appearances.
Ambrose started three games between the posts, making 12 saves and posting a 1.33 goals against average with a .750 save percentage.
The Stags finished the 2008 season with a 4-14 overall record under head coach Jackie Kane, as the team finished its second campaign as a member of America East.
