ORONO, Maine -- Although it was only the second game of the season, it was senior day for the Fairfield University field hockey team. Seniors Courtney O'Connor and Caitlin Quinn each scored a goal in the Stags' come-from-behind win against the Bears.

The home team jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first half, as Nicole Emery accepted a pass from Amy Zdrojesky inside the circle and released a shot that caught the corner of the cage. It was the only time that Fairfield goaltender Elizabeth Thomas would be beaten during the day, as the junior tallied 12 saves in the game.

Fairfield tied the game in the second half, thanks to a penalty corner in the 57th minute. O'Connor converted a pass from Chelsea Hicks for her first goal of the season, making the score 1-1. Both goaltenders kept the score even from that point. Thomas faced 14 shots in the second half, but she turned away nine shots on goal in the period.

The Stags won the game in the second overtime when Quinn teamed up with Emily Janis for the game-winning goal. Janis pushed the ball through the Maine defense, and found Quinn open from seven yards away. She shot the ball past Maine goaltender Rebecca Giroux with only a few minutes remaining in the second overtime.

The Stags return to action on Saturday, September 2 when they travel to the University of Rhode Island for a 2 pm start.
