FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Emily Janis scored her second goal of the season late in the first half, but it was not enough for Fairfield University to overtake Hofstra University. The Pride posted a 3-1 win over the Stags in a non-conference match up at University Field.

Hofstra opened the scoring with 17 minutes remaining in the first half. Doni-Melissa Jantzen controlled a loose ball deep in the left corner, and sent a cross onto the stick of Pemba Ramdoo. Ramdoo stopped the ball and released a shot which found the back of the net at 17:12.

Less than two minutes later, Jantzen pushed the score to 2-0 when she recovered a rebound off a save from Elizabeth Thomas. She sent the ball past Thomas into the lower right corner to complete the scoring play.

Fairfield cut into that lead with a goal at the 4:27 mark of the first half. Katie Braden sent a pass over to Kelly Rath, who redirected the ball toward the goal. Janis tipped the ball past Hofstra goaltender Jessica Cowperthwait to make the score 2-1.

The second half was more of a defensive struggle, with each team turning away all scoring opportunities. The Pride broke through with one minute remaining in the game, ending Fairfield's hopes for a come back. Ramdoo sent the ball from the right corner toward the center of the circle. Brit Blankmeyer secured the pass and sent the shot past Thomas for a 3-1 lead.

Thomas finished the game with four saves for the Stags, while Cowperthwait turned away three shots for the Pride.
