FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- A late goal in the second half proved to be the difference this afternoon, allowing Radford University (4-2 overall) edge Fairfield University (1-7 overall) by a 2-1 count at University Field. The Highlanders posted their fourth straight win with the decision.
Radford broke up the scoreless game 24 minutes into the first half. Whitney Parker converted a pass from Lauren Hebert, controlling the pass in front of the Fairfield net. She lifted the ball over Lauren Callahan, who made an initial save but could not control the rebound.
The Stags tied the game at the 9:01 mark of the first half. Kelly Rath started the play with a pass to Allison Mays in the center of the circle. Mays stick handled her way past a defender and released a shot which beat the charging goaltender for a 1-0 lead.
The Highlanders scored the deciding goal with 15:47 left in regulation when Parker secured a loose ball and pushed it past Callahan to give the visitors the lead at 2-1.
Callahan made four saves in the game, while Radford goalkeeper Amy Dietz secured a pair of stops.
