PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- A two-game trip to the City of Brotherly Love ended with a 3-0 loss for the Fairfield University field hockey team, as Temple University sent the Stags home with a 3-0 set back on Sunday afternoon.
The two teams played a closely contested game for the opening 10 minutes before the home squad began to set up an attack inside in the Fairfield circle. The Owls broke through 14 minutes into the game when Leanne Vogelson tallied an unassisted goal from the top of the circle, pushing Temple in front at 1-0.
The Owls managed to find the back of the cage one more time before halftime, increasing their advantage to 2-0 when Mandi Ruth converted a cross from Alli Lokey in the 22nd minute.
After intermission, Temple tallied the lone goal of the second half when Kasey Ruth accepted a pas from Liz Watto, and beat Fairfield goaltender Elizabeth Thomas to the short side for a 3-0 lead. Thomas finished the game with two saves for the Stags.
