Emily Janis converted a pass from Brittany Bates for the only Fairfield University goal, as the field hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to the College of the Holy Cross.

Lauren Cohen opened up the scoring just over five minutes into the contest when she blasted a shot off of a penalty corner past Fairfield goalkeeper Liz Thomas for a 1-0 Crusader lead.

The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead at the 14:22 mark when Cohen tacked on another score on a penalty stroke, but the Stags fought back and cut the lead to one (2-1) after a score by Emily Janis, who was assisted by Brittany Bates.

Tara Welch then tallied her fifth goal of the season with just 2:24 remaining in the half when she scored on a penalty stroke, giving HC a 3-1 advantage.

Welch rounded out the scoring at the 58:23 mark when she one-timed a centering pass by Jenna Cook to give Holy Cross a 4-1 cushion.

Crusader goalie Sony Kuhn made four saves on the afternoon to record her fourth win of the season, while Thomas finished with five stops. The Crusaders enjoyed a 16-7 shot advantage, despite a 7-6 Fairfield edge on penalty corners.
