FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Briana Keene scored three goals, including two in the first half, to lift the Fairfield University field hockey team (4-9 overall, 2-1 NEC) to a 3-1 win over Monmouth University (2-9, 1-2). Three different Stags recorded an assist in the victory.

The Stags opened the scoring 22 minutes into the contest when Emily Janis controlled the ball in the circle and shoveled a pass over to Keene who was wide open on the left side. She one-timed a shot past Monmouth goaltender Carrie Colbert for the 1-0 lead.

Four minutes later, Rebecca Odenwaelder took a free hit after a foul and found Keene open in the circle, who stopped the ball and released a shot into the center of the goalmouth which beat the Hawks defense.

The visiting team made things more interesting with a goal in the 49th minute. Hollee Hooven scored off a quick wrist shot after receiving a ross from Janine McMillin, cutting the deficit in half at 2-1. Fairfield put the game out of reach six minutes later courtest of Keene's third goal of the game, converting a pass from Courtney O'Connor.

Lauren Callahan made two saves in the Fairfield net, recording her second straight win in as many days. Colbert made four saves for the Monmouth defense.
