FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team came up short in Friday's match up with Northeast Conference foe Siena College, as the Saints used a second-half goal to post a 1-0 win at University Field. The Stags outshot the Saints by a 10-5 count, including six shots in the closing 10 minutes of the game.
The game was scoreless through the first half, as the Stags held a 4-2 lead in shots. Almost all of the six first-half shots came off penalty corners, as the two teams combined for five corners. Siena came out and applied pressure to start the second half. The Saints picked up a loose ball on the left side of the circle, which Andrea Caso sent to the center of the circle. Traci Baldwin picked up the pass and pushed the ball past goaltender Lauren Callaham, breaking the scoreless tie.
The Stags' offense put together an offensive flurry over the final five minutes, which resulted in six shots on the Saints net. Goaltender Jennifer Tesak was equal to the task, finishing the half with four saves. She tallied seven saves in her 70 minutes of work.
Fairfield split the goaltending duties with Elizabeth Thomas making two saves in the first half, and Lauren Callahan registering two stops in the second half.
The Stags return to action on Sunday, October 8 when they travel to Monmouth University.
