FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Kelly Rath scored her sixth goal of the season in the first half, before Sacred Heart University tallied a pair of goals to post a 2-1 win over the Stags at University Field.
The Stags opened up the game with a goal 17 minutes remaining in the first half. Fairfield was awarded a penalty corner after the Pioneers incurred an infraction inside the circle. Nicole Mazzocchi set up the ball for Rath, who stroked the ball from 10 yards away and beat Sacred Heart goaltender Ashley Del Greco.
Sacred Heart tied the game less than one minute later when Melissa Mazin tallied an unassisted goal. The two teams went scoreless for the next 35 minutes until the Pioneers set up the game-winning play.
With 16 minutes remaining in regulation, Nicole Falco pushed a pass into the circle toward Katie Bohren. Bohren stopped the ball and released a shot which found the back of the cage to put Sacred Heart 2-1.
The Stags had a chance to tie the game with no time left on the clock after they were awarded a penalty corner. However, the Pioneers defense kept Fairfield from getting a shot on goal to secure the win.
Fairfield goaltender Lauren Callahan made two saves, while Del Greco was credited with six saves.
