LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- Elizabeth Thomas made five saves in the Fairfield goal, as the Fairfield University field hockey team came up short against host Lock Haven University, 3-0.
The Stags' defense kept the home team off the scoreboard for a good part of the first half unitl Blair Wynne found an opening in the defense at 17:50. Renee Kemmerer and Sarah Huber set up the goal off a corner play that best Thomas to the lower corner.
Huber picked up the team's second goal off a penalty corner, a score which was set up by Courtney Hughes' pass to the top of the circle. Six minutes later, Samantha Stoyer netted the team's third goal by deflecting Renee Kemmerer's initial shot.
Lock Haven outshot Fairfield by a 16-3 count, including a nine to one advantage in the first half. Becca Yerkes paced the home team's defense with two saves in 64 minutes of action.
The Stags return to action on Sunday with an 11 am game at St. Francis College (Pa.), the team's last conference game of the 2005 campaign.
