Final Stats

LORETTO, Pa. -- Despite falling behind by a 2-0 count in the first four minutes of the game, the Fairfield University field hockey team kept its hopes of qualifying for the Northeast Conference tournament with a 4-3 come-from-behind win over St. Francis Pa. Four different Stags scored in the game, including Nicole Mazzocchi's game-winner with eight minutes remaining in regulation.

St. Francis scored a goal just 23 seconds into the game when Erin Maguire sent a cross to the middle of the circle, which Monica Nicolas turned into a goal. Three minutes later, Erin Davis secured a loose ball in front of the net, and quickly shot the ball past Fairfield goaltender Lauren Callahan for a 2-0 lead with 31 minutes remaining in the first half.

Fairfield began its comeback less than two minutes later, courtesy of a goal by Chelsea Hicks. The goal was set up by a good pass close to the net by Katie Braden. The Stags managed to tie the game before intermission when Emily Janis converted a pass from Rebecca Odenwaelder with 9:23 left in the first half.

The lead went in favor of Fairfield following Odenwaelder's second penalty stroke goal of the season, sending the ball past the goaltender at the 46:59 mark. Seven minutes later, Samantha Nonweiler tied the game with a slap shot to the lower left corner of the goal, making the score 3-3 with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.

Fairfield put the game away when Nicole Mazzocchi pushed a shot past goaltender Erin Reifsteck at 62:33 to put the visitors in front for the final time.

Callahan finished the game with four saves for the Stags. Reifsteck made 10 saves in the game, including eight in the second half as the Stags outshot St. Francis by an 18-3 count in the final 35 minutes of action.

The Stags finish the regular-season portion of their Northeast Conference schedule with a 4-4 record.
