MOON TOWNSHIP, PA. -- A little extra time never hurts anyone, especially if you are the Fairfield University field hockey team. For the third time in the last five games, the Stags posted a victory in overtime as they knocked off Robert Morris in the season finale by a 2-1 count. The field hockey team posted four wins in its final five games to finish the conference season with a 4-4 mark.

After a scoreless first half, Fairfield's offense finally broke through in the 53rd minute when Emily Janis sent a pass over Chelsea Hicks, who beat goaltender Kate Dunlap to push the Stags in front, 1-0. Robert Morris did not relent and tied the game up in with just over five minutes remaining.

Andrea Tasker started the scoring opportunity with a pass to the center of the circle, which Sarah Schrott finished by beating Stags goalkeeper Elizabeth Thomas to make the score 1-1. The home team outshot Fairfield by a 5-2 count in the second half, but Thomas kept the game tied with solid play down the stretch.

Just 93 seconds into overtime, Fairfield finished the game when Janis tallied an unassisted goal. Janis' attempt was the Stags' fifth shot in that short near two-minute stretch. RMU goaltender Dunlap turned away three of those shots, but could not come up with the save on the fifth and final shot.

Thomas finished the game with two saves, as Lauren Callahan played the opening 35 minutes without allowing a goal.

Fairfield finished the season with a 6-13 overall record, and finished fifth in the Northeast Conference, just missing the four-team conference tournament next weekend.
