FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Post-season honors of the academic nature are becoming the norm for the Fairfield University field hockey team, as the squad earned yet another academic team award from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The Stags were one of 53 teams in the nation to be honored with a National Academic Team Award by the coaches association. Plus, the NFHCA recognized eight Fairfield student athletes for their performance in the classroom as well as on the field.

The NFHCA bestowed its team award to Head Coach Jackie Kane and her squad after the team posted a combined grade point average of over 3.20. The team mark was aided by eight Fairfield student athletes who obtained a 3.20 GPA individually, and were therefore honored by the NFHCA for their academic success.

Freshman defender Sarah Borton (Forty Fort, Pa.), junior goaltender Lauren Callahan (Bedford, N.H.), sophomore defender Wendy Carbone (Derry, N.H.), freshman forward Paxton Delaney (Charlottesville, Va.), freshman midfielder Ashton DiDonato (Upper Arlington, Ohio), freshman midfielder Carly McCullough (Queensbury, N.Y.), senior midfielder Caitlin Quinn (Ardmore, Pa.), and junior goaltender Elizabeth Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) each collected the recognition.

The Fairfield University field hockey will open the 2007 season as a member of the America East Conference after spending the last three campaigns in the Northeast Conference. The Stags finished the 2006 season with a 6-13 overall record and a 4-4 conference mark.
