FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore Briana Keene (Pottstown, Pa.) earned the Northeast Conference Player of the Week award after scoring two goals in the field hockey's season-opening 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts on August 27.

The forward tallied the game's first goal with just under one minute remaining in the first half, converting a pass inside the circle for a 1-0 lead. Keene manufactured the team's second goal just 30 seconds later when she stole the ball and slammed a shot past UMass goaltender Becky Letourneau to double the Stags advantage.

The performance marked the first time that Keene tallied two goals in a game. She finished her rookie campaign with two goals and two assists for six total points. Keene tallied her first-game winning goal of her career against UMass.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under head coach Jackie Kane, plays three home games in the next six games. The run begins on Tuesday, August 30 when the Stags host the University of Maine.
