FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Freshman Emily Janis (East Hampton, N.Y.) received the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week after scoring her first collegiate points against Hofstra University last week.

Janis tallied the points in a 3-1 loss to the Pride, but her goal kept the Stags within striking distance. Hofstra jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Janis converted a pass from Kelly Rath to cut the lead in half. The Stags remained within a goal until the Pride scored in the final minute of regulation.

The forward came to Fairfield University after a successful career at East Hampton High School where she earned varsity letters in field hockey, softball, and track and field. She finished her career with 42 goals and 20 assists for 104 total points. She earned All-Long Island and All-New York honors as a field hockey player.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under head coach Jackie Kane, owns a 1-7 overall record and an 0-1 NEC mark. The Stags return to action on Wednesday, September 21 at the College of the Holy Cross.
