FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Emily Janis collected the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week award after helping the Fairfield University field hockey team win two games last week. The two victories helped the Stags move into a tie for third place in the conference standings with a 2-1 mark.

The forward opened the week by scoring the first two goals in a 5-0 win over Robert Morris University. Both goals came in the second half, the first coming with 30 minutes remaining in the half. She added her second goal 11 minutes later, her fifth of the season.

Janis came back two days later and helped the Stags post a 3-1 win over Monmouth University. She started the scoring for Fairfield with a sharp pass to the center of the circle, setting up Briana Keene's first of three goals on the day. The assist was Janis' first of her career, giving her 11 points on the season.

Janis has tallied at least one point in four of the last five games, and in five of her 13 appearances this season. She currently ranks third on the team for total points, and second among her teammates with for goals.

The Fairfield University field hockey team, under head coach Jackie Kane, owns a 4-9 overall record. The Stags travels to Siena College on October 6 before finishing up the home portion of their schedule on October 9 against Sacred Heart University.
