FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Fresh off two wins against the upper division of the Northeast Conference, the Fairfield University field hockey looks to build upon that momentum as it prepares for the stretch run of the 2006 season. The Stags can further improve their chances for a conference tournament berth this weekend, hosting St. Francis, Pa. on Friday (4 pm)and Lock Haven (Noon).

Fairfield's two impressive wins were anchored by junior goaltender Elizabeth Thomas, who earned the NEC player of the week award on Monday after making 24 saves in the double overtime wins against Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. Later in the week, Thomas secured the ECAC goaltender of the week award for her two-game effort.

Sophomore Emily Janis played a significant role in the victory as well, scoring the game-tying goal with 10 minutes remaining in regulation against Quinnipiac, and setting up the game-winning score in the second overtime against Sacred Heart. Janis is second on the team in scoring with nine points, which includes a team-high five assists.

Seniors Caitlin Quinn and Courtney O'Connor round out the top three scorers for the Stags. Quinn leads the squad with 13 points, tallying six goals and one assist. O'Connor rates third on the list with five points, securing a pair of goals and an assist.

Both Quinn and O'Connor will be honored prior to the Lock Haven game, as the University community will celebrate senior day with a ceremony prior to the starting lineups.
