FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The hard work and dedication that often goes into a four-year career in any collegiate sport is often taken for granted. So, it's always nice to see that devotion rewarded. Senior field hockey players Caitlin Quinn and Courtney O'Connor were selected to the 2006 All-Northeast Conference (NEC) first team for their stellar play during the season.

On a team that had seven sophomores and nine freshmen, Quinn and O'Connor's leadership was instrumental in carrying the team through the season. The duo certainly led by example as Quinn finished the campaign as the team's top scorer while O'Connor placed third among her teammates for scoring. Both players tied or exceeded their three-year career goals and assists totals with this year's results.

Quinn, who made the All-NEC team as a midfielder, tallied a team-high six goals with two assists for a team-best 14 points. Two of her goals resulted in victories, as she was one of three Fairfield players to start all 19 games this year. Both of her game-winning goals came in double-overtime decisions, scoring against the University of Maine and Quinnipiac University.

O'Connor excelled as a defensive player who also showed her ability to score points. Whether it was starting counter attacks off good defensive play or anchoring the team's penalty corner offense, O'Connor showed her offensive capabilities throughout the season. She ended the 2006 season with two goals and one assist for five points in 19 appearances.

The Stags were one of five teams in the conference that earned first team honors.
