
Esposito Leads Stags To Fifth Place Finish At SHU Fall Classic

The Fairfield University women's golf team completed the fall portion of its schedule this weekend, shooting a two-day 729 to finish in fifth place at the SHU Fall Classic. The Stags shot 15 strokes better in the second round, carding team totals of 372-257.
Alicia Esposito paced the Stags effort with a strong showing, placing seventh at 174, +30. The sophomore was in a tie for eighth place after the first day with an 89, before putting up a second round 85 to move into seventh place. The Stags next finisher was rookie Christiana Destefano who finished at +37, 181, in a tie for 13th place. She also had a solid round two showing, improving three strokes, 92-89.
Kristin MacDonald was next for the Stags, also improving her second round score from day one, finishing in 16th place at 183, +39. She was five strokes better on Monday, following her opening round 94 with an 89. Freshmen classmates Annie Sperandio and Claire Rothschild were two of three in a 27 place tie, with 197, +53 final scores. Sperandio shot 97-100, while Rothschild carded a day-two 94, improving nine strokes from her opening round.
Michele Holzwarth of FDU captured the individual crown, shooting a twod-ay 163, +19. She helped lead her team to the overall title, with a two-day 684.
The event was played at the Great River Golf Course in Milford, Conn. The course was set at par-72 for the event. The first round was played in high and gusty winds, while the second round was delayed two hours due to frost and also saw gusty winds throughout the round.
