Women's Golf Finishes Third At CCSU Spring Invitational

The Fairfield University women's golf team shot 336 as a team in the second round, the second best round of the day to move up two spots, to third, at the CCSU Spring Invitational.  Fairfield shot a two-round 683 at the par-73 Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conn.

Fairleigh Dickinson captured the team crown with a 657 (322-335), with the Knights Michele Holzwarth winning the individual crown, with a 159.

The Stags trailed Sacred Heart by nine strokes and Central Connecticut by eight strokes after the first round.  Each of the five Fairfield players lowered their second round scores, besting all five first round scores on Sunday, to tie CCSU and finish 16 strokes ahead of the Pioneers.

Kristen MacDonald shot a team-best round of 82 on Sunday, moving from 12th place to seventh place, with a two-day 168.  Courtney Richardson was one stroke better on Sunday, and moved up a spot, into 11th, with a 171 for the tournament.  Christiana Destefano carded a second-round 84, moving into an 11th place tie, with her 171.  Alicia Espositio and Annie Sperandio both carded rounds of 85 on Sunday.  Esposito was three strokes better on Sunday, to finish 15th with a 173.  Sperandio was five strokes better in round two, carding a 175 for the tournament, good for 16th place.

The Stags wrap up the 2008 schedule at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship in Orlando, Fla., April 24-27.
