Women's Golf Finishes Third At Colonial Golf Classic

The Fairfield University women's golf team placed third at the 2008 Holiday Inn Colonial Classic, shooting a two-day 683 in Moon Township, Pa.  The event was played at the Montour Heights Golf Course which played par-72 and 6,120 yards.

As a team the Stags shot 346 on the first day, and then posted a 337 team score on Tuesday. Youngstown State won the team title with a two-day 648, paced by the individual winner, Samantha Formeck, with a 160.

Kristen MacDonald and Christiana Destefano were the Stags top finishers at the event, carding identical two-day scores of 168, to tie for eighth.  MacDonald shot the team's best round, 80, on Monday and finished with a round of 88 on Tuesday.  Destefano shot 86 in the first round and followed that with a round of 82 in round two.

Alicia Esposito finished 15th at the event, with a two-day score a 171.  She shot an 88 on Monday and then carded an 83 in the second round.  Annie Sperandio was next for the Stags, tying for 21st.  She shot a 176 at the event, 92-84.  Claire Rothschild rounded out the team's effort with a two-day score of 187.  She shot 96-91 to finish in a tie for 37th place.

The Stags return to action at the Mount St. Mary's Fall Classic, Oct. 26-28.  the final event of the fall portion of the season for Fairfield will be played at Quail Valley Golf Course in Littlestown, Pa.
