RESTON, Va. - The Fairfield University women's golf team finished eighth out of 14 teams at the Third Annual Hoya Invitational, on Sat., April 2, at Raspberry Falls Golf Course. The tournament was shortened to one round due to heavy rain showers throughout the weekend. The Stags shot a team total 364 on the par 72, 5,848-yard course.
Fairfield was led by senior Allie Schick (North Kingston, R.I.) who shot an 82 (+10) to finish six-strokes back of the individual medallist, Yales's Cindy Shin, to take eighth-place out of 73 golfers.
Sophomore Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) tied for 34th-place overall, shooting a 91 (+19) on the day while senior Jill Macari (Reading, Mass.) shot a 95 (+23) to tie for 50th-place. Senior Jessica Doyle (Milton, Mass.) had a 96 (+24) to finish in a tie for 54th and junior Lindsey Ryan (Berlin, Conn.) rounded out the Stags with a 100 (+28) to tie for 58th-place overall.
Fairfield edged out Long Island University-Brooklyn by two strokes to take eighth-place and fell just six strokes shy of seventh-place Columbia. The invitational was won by Yale University with a 322 (+34), followed by Princeton with a 335 (+47) and Georgetown with a score of 341(+53).
Fairfield is back in action April 11-12 as they travel to West Hartford, Conn., to take place in the University of Hartford Invitational at the Wampanoag Country Club.
