WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Allie Schick shot an opening-round 80 to lead the Fairfield University women's golf team to a second-place finish on the first day of the 2004 Hartford Women's Invitational on Monday afternoon at the 5,665 yard, par-73 Wampanoag Country Club golf course. The second round, scheduled to begin Tuesday morning has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Stags finished with a team-total 338, 22-strokes behind first-place Boston College. Siena College placed third (344), followed by Boston University (349), while Hofstra University (350) rounded out the top-five. The 12-team event also featured squads from Long Island University (351), Lehigh University (357), Central Connecticut State (362), Monmouth University (368), Wagner College (373), the University of Hartford (393) and Sacred Heart University (405).
Joining Schick as top-20 finishers were freshman Liz McCabe (Wellesley, Mass.) and senior Colleen Travers (Arlington, Mass.). McCabe shot an 84 (+11) to tie for 13th-place while Travers posted an 86 (+13) to tie for 16th overall. Junior Jess Doyle (Milton, Mass.) finished tied for 22nd-place with an 88 (+15) while classmate Julie McLoughlin (Rome, N.Y.) rounded out the field for the Stags, shooting a 99 (+26).
Fairfield finishes the season in Orlando, Fla., as they participate in the MAAC championships, to be held on Disney's Magnolia golf course from April 24-25.
