The Fairfield University women's golf team shot a team-total 355 in the first round of the Jack Leaman Championship, good for ninth place. The event is being played at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club in South Amherst, Mass. The first round was played at 5,824 yards, par-74.

Alicia Esposito, a freshman, shot an 81, including a back-nine 39, to play into a ninth place tie at +7, five strokes off the leader.

Courtney Richardson was four strokes better on the back then on the front, to shoot a +12, 86, good for 27th entering the second round. Krista Duval put herself into a 49th place tie with a +19, 93 on day one, while Liz McCabe was two strokes behind her teammate in 56th place (+21). Lynze Murphy is in 60th place all alone with a +22 first round score, shooting 48 on both the front and back nine.

Boston College shot a +19, 315, on the first day to take the team lead, 12 strokes ahead of second place Middlebury College. The Stags are five stroke back of eighth place Central Connecticut and have four team within eight strokes ahead of them. UC Santa Cruz is in 10th, three strokes behind Fairfield.

The event concludes Sunday morning.
