The Fairfield University women's golf team used a strong second round effort to move up four spots and finish fifth, 698, at the Jack Leaman Championship in South Amherst, Mass. The event was played at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course, which on Sunday played par-72 and 5,880 yards.

Fairfield surpassed four teams, including making up five shots on CEntral Connecticut State University on Sunday. The Stags were ninth after day one, having shot a 355 as a team. Fairfield shot a 343 on Sunday, the third best team round of the day, to make the move possible.

Newcomer Alicia Esposito was the Stags top finisher, tying for 10th place, with a two-day +19, 165.

Courtney Richardson, who started the day in 27th place, shot a second round 84, to move into 18th place, with a two-day 170, +24. Liz McCabe improved by 13 strokes from Saturday to Sunday, shooting an 82 in the second round. That effort moved her from 56th after one round into a tie for 26th place, with a 177, +31.

Krista Duval equaled her first round effort, shooting a 93 on day two, for a tournament total 186, +40, good for 47th place. Lynze Murphy was two strokes better on Sunday, moving from 60th place to 53rd, with a two-day 190, +44.

Boston College maintained its first day lead, earning the win with a two-day 633. The Stags defeated Boston University by two strokes and CCSU by nine. Fairfield came within four strokes of knocking off in-state rival Hartford (694) after trailing by eight shots after day one.

Fairfield will complete its 2007 season this coming weekend at the MAAC Championships at Walt Disney World. The event begins on Thursday and concludes Sunday.
